non paying winner who go let down on the sale of his own car, so I gladly let him out of the sale as his winning bid was less than it cost me to import it, so not taking nay chnaces on a no-reserve auction this time. This classified ad gives up to 28 days for you to decide if it`s what you want, sell your own car if necessarry and come and actually look at this lovely old classic car. This would make an excellent first time American classic, it`s a reasonable size so not scary as a first time left hand drive, and easier to park than the big ones, and as a 6 cylinder, the fuel bills should be manageable, whilst the auto trans makes sure you don`t have to worry about gears if you`re not used to left hand drive. It`s also practical to take the family to shows, you probably wont be parked near another one as it`s pretty rare, and it doesn`t really need anything doing to be able to use it straight away. Being a blue oval, it also fits in at any classic car show, especially Ford only days. Being a Ford from the `60s it`s also very easy to work on and parts are readily available on the internet. these are the bullet points: read on for full description... Hi, welcome to our ebay listing for our classic vehicles. Rock`n`Roll Motors is a new business based in Grangemouth, Central Scotland and was primarily set up as I got made redundant and decided to turn my classic vehicle hobby into a business. I have been selling the odd American car on my other ebay handle v8.jimmy, and there you will still find some vehicles being sold, as the ones on the v8.jimmy site are personally owned and are being sold to help buy stock for this business on this ebay account. As Rock`n`Roll Motors, we import American classic cars and trucks, restore and sell, or sell as projects, we can handle shipping from California to Scotland for your own transatlantic purchase, we can repair or restore your classic vehicle (from a motorcycle to a heavy goods vehicle) at competitive rates. We also do wedding hire with a 1957 Chevrolet BelAir and a 1960 Mercury Montclair. Okay, now you know who we are and what we are about, let`s get on with this listing... www.rocknrollmotors.co.uk Recently imported in our first container of three vehicles, this 1964 Ford Fairlane would make an ideal starter classic American car, and being off white, could also earn money as a wedding car. Not as big as a full size yank, this is a good size (about the same as a Granada or similar) to fit in UK parking spaces, garages, etc. It should be fairly economical to run, being a 6 cylinder 200cu in engine with a 3 speed column change auto transmission. Upon import we found that the front floor pans required a bit of work, which has been done, one new tyre was needed, handbrake pull handle was replaced, and maybe a few other small issues. The welding to the front floor pans was done to a very good standard, and that is all the welding that has been done to this car...ever. It starts right away, even after lying around for a while, and drives very well, though carb does have a bit of a flat spot some times. The auto trans changes as it should and it runs along nice and quiet, handles quite well and stops nice and straight despite it having non power drum brakes all round. All electrics were working (heater is very good) but horn has stopped for some reason. Interior is very clean, carpet is clean but a bit faded with the California sun. Driver door has a little paint rubbed off inside at door opening handle. Other than that, interior is really pristine for age. Inside boot is very clean and tidy, as is engine bay. Exterior wise, paint is good, but an older paint job so not perfect, though very presentable. It has a couple of light knocks which should show in the last three pics. One piece of stainless trim is missing from right rear door, I`m currently looking for a replacement. Car was in daily use in California before we imported it, and in the pics it still has it`s California black plates. We do have it registered and it`s on a "B" suffix as is correct for 1964. We will have a set of American sized plates made for it. We already have some normal UK plates which do not fit in the recesses, but we left the CA plates on as we used it in a major film with major stars which was shot in Glasgow last year (16th to 18th sept). We actually had 8 vehicles in the film, and when the film is released, the last owner should be able to see his car running around in San Francisco (Glasgow) with it`s original plates still fitted!! Kool!! So, there you have it, a nice useable, fairly rare American car. You will be the first UK owner apart from the importers (us) and the car already has film status, and has never been seen at a UK car show, so, buy it now and show it next year. Although we are based in Central Scotland, please do not let this be an issue for you as I pride myself on my descriptions and must add that on my other accounts and via magazines, I have never ever failed to sell a car to the first person who travels to see it! If you know what you are looking for, and do decide to come and see, I can assure you the car will be as described here. There is no point in me telling lies about a car, as, quite simply, when you come and see it, you will not buy it if it`s not as described, so, a big waste fo time for me and a waste of time and money for you. I have no wish to deceive any potential buyer, I`ve been on the receiving end of that in the past, travelling many hundreds of miles to see something very much different from what was described to me. I aim to change that as a business seller. I`d rather gain a new friend and not sell you a car than sell you something and make a new enemy!! I am an enthusiast first and business man second. If you want to come and look, I can pick you up at Edinburgh Airport, or Linlithgow or Falkirk rail stations and return you after your visit. The above asking price includes FREE UK mainland delivery, though if you offer less, you will have to collect or pay for delivery yourself, though I can still arrange that at a good price. us through ebay, our own website, or e-mail horn.chevy@blueyonder.co.uk or jim@rocknrollmotors.co.uk or phone on 07593 187939 or my home number (though I`m never in!) is 01506 822878. Thanks for looking and please don`t hesitate to ask any questions. Payment terms are as follows: cash on collection, bank wire transfer before car leaves here, or cleared cheque, before car leaves here, NO PAYPAL on this. X

Ford Fairlane (Americas) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For the Australian version, see Ford Fairlane (Australia). The name was taken from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes; the Fairlane was initially a full-size car but became a mid-size car from the 1962 model year. The mid-sized model spawned the Australian-built Fairlane in 1967, although it was considered a large car there. Six different body styles were offered, including the Crown Victoria Skyliner with a tinted, transparent plastic roof, the regular Crown Victoria coupe with lots of stainless steel trim, a convertible Sunliner, Victoria coupe, and traditional sedans. All featured the trademark stainless-steel "Fairlane stripe" on the side. Power options were a 223 CID (3.7 L) straight-6 engine and a 272 CID (4.5 L) V8. 1956 saw few changes; a 4-door Victoria hardtop was introduced, and two new, more powerful V8 options, of 292 CID (4.8 L) and 312 CID (5.1 L), the latter available up to 225 brake horsepower (168 kW).Lifeguard safety package was introduced. See also: 1957 Ford For 1957, a new look gave a longer, wider, lower and sleeker look with low tailfins. A new top trim level was added, the Fairlane 500. For the first time, the lower-level Custom line had a shorter wheelbase than the Fairlane. Engines were largely the same as the year before. The big news for 1957 was the introduction of the Fairlane 500 Skyliner power retractable hardtop, whose solid top hinged and folded down into the trunk space at the touch of a button. Unfortunately, it attracted more attention than sales; the option was expensive, somewhat unreliable, and took up almost all the trunk space when retracted. Even so, it required the roof to be made shorter than the other Fairlanes, and the trunk to be larger. Another facelift for 1958 saw fashionable quad headlights, a grille that matched the 1958 Thunderbird, and other styling changes. New big-block FE V8s of 332 and 352 CID (5.4) and (5.8 L) replaced the previous largest V8s, and a better 3-speed automatic transmission was also available. 1959 saw a new top-level full-size model introduced at mid-year, the Ford Galaxie. A Fairlane is featured in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball, and also briefly in the 2002 Bond film Die Another Day. With an overall length of 197 in (5004 mm) and a wheelbase of 115.5 in (2934 mm) it was 16 in (406 mm) longer than the Falcon and 12.3 in (312 mm) shorter than the Galaxie. Like the Falcon, the Fairlane had a unibody frame, but the body incorporated an unusual feature Ford dubbed 'torque boxes,' four boxed structures in the lower body structure designed to absorb road shock by moving slightly in the vertical plane. Suspension was a conventional short-long arm independent arrangement in front, with Hotchkiss drive in the rear. The Fairlane was initially offered only in two-door or four-door sedan body styles. The Fairlane's standard engine was the 170 CID (2.8 L) six, but as an option, it introduced Ford's new, lightweight Windsor V8, initially with a displacement of 221 CID (3.6 L) and 145 hp (108 kW); a 260 CID (4.2 L) "Challenger" version was added at mid-year, with an advertised 164 hp (122 kW). The Sports Coupe option débuted mid-year and featured bucket seats and a mini console. The trim level supplemented the Fairlane and Fairlane 500 trim levels (the 500 model having more decorative trim, such as a wider chrome stripe down the side and three bullets on the rear quarter panels). The Challenger 289 CID engine was introduced in mid-1963, with solid lifters and other performance pieces helping the engine produce an advertised 271 hp (202 kW); however, it was equipped with single exhaust like the less powerful engines. This engine was coded "K" in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Exterior identification was by fender-mounted "V" badges that read "289 High Performance". That same year, station wagons arrived, called the Ranch Wagon and Ranch Custom Wagon. All 1962 Fairlanes had "B" posts despite the popularity of the pillarless hardtop and convertible styles in that era. Ford saw the problem and introduced two pillarless hardtop coupes for 1963, in Fairlane 500 and Sports Coupe trim. For 1963 and later Sports Coupe models, the center console, which had come from the Falcon parts bin for 1962, was changed to be similar to that of the Galaxie. Front end styling for the '63 models mimicked the big Galaxie models, but the rear end retained the small tailfins and "pieplate" taillamp styling cues. The Squire wagon (a fake woodie) was available for 1963 only, including one model with front bucket seats. The 1964 and 1965 Fairlane ranges consisted of similar body styles: base Fairlane and Fairlane 500 two-door coupes and four-door sedans, Fairlane 500 and Sports Coupe two-door hardtops. The Fairlane Squire wagon was dropped, but the standard station wagon was continued. The 221 V8 was dropped after 1963, leaving the six as the base engine and the 260 as the base V8. The "K-code" 271-horsepower 289 V8 continued into 1964 gaining dual exhausts, while a 195 horsepower (145 kW) version of the 289 with a two-barrell carburetor and hydraulic lifters was introduced. The two-speed Fordomatic continued as the automatic transmission choice for the 260 in 1964, while 289 V8s got the new "C4" three-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission option. All 1965 models featured 14-inch (360 mm) wheels as standard, in place of the earlier 13-inch (330 mm) wheels, and Fordomatic was finally phased out, leaving Cruise-O-Matic the only automatic available for the Fairlane. The 260 was also dropped after 1964, leaving the two-barrel 289 as the base V8. Styling-wise, in 1964, a new grille and headlight bezels were introduced, the tail fins were dropped, some chrome decorating on the side was changed and the shape of the trunk lid changed. Styling features for 1965 included body-color headlight bezels for the deluxe models and rectangular taillight lenses, a return to the 1962-1963 trunk lid, along with less chrome on the body and a small standup hood ornament. The Fairlane was revised in 1966. XL, GT and GTA packages were introduced, as well as a convertible to join the existing range of sedans, hardtops and station wagons. The "K-code" 289 was dropped this year. GT featured a 390 CID V8 as standard, while the GTA had a SportShift Cruise-o-Matic automatic transmission. The base 390 CID engine, meanwhile, developed 335 bhp (250 kW) and had a four-barrel carburetor. Mid year, Ford produced 60 special Fairlane 500 2-door hardtops with a '"R-code" 427 CID unit rated at 425 bhp (317 kW) and equipped with Ford's "Top-Loader" 4-speed manual transmission. Built to qualify the engine/transmission combination for NHRA and IHRA Super Stock racing, they were white and had a fiberglass hood with a forward facing hood scoop which ended at the edge of the hood. The Fairlane Squire wagon débuted for 1966. Minor trim changes were introduced for 1967 as the Fairlane was mildly facelifted. The 289 CID small-block became the base V8, with a 200-cubic-inch six standard, with the 390 CID optional (with either two- or four-barrel carburetor, at 275 and 320 bhp (240 kW) respectively). The 427s were still available, either with a single four-barrel carburetor or dual quad carbs, developing 410 (Q-code) and 425 bhp (R-code) respectively; however, 427s were not available on XL models. The notable addition for the 1967 model year was a Ranchero pick-up truck as part of the Fairlane range (from 1960 to 1965, the Ranchero was based on the Falcon, while in 1966 it used the Fairlane platform but Falcon styling). 1967 Fairlanes also saw the introduction of a number of Federal government-mandated safety features, including a new energy-absorbing steering column with large padded steering wheel hub, soft interior trim, 4-way hazard flashers, a dual-chamber braking system and shoulder belt anchors. The Falcon Ranchero and Falcon station wagon were, between 1966 and 1970, identical under the skin to the Fairlane versions of the same model. Only sheetmetal and trim differed. 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 Modified, street-driven 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt factory experimental drag car 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 1966 Ford Fairlane sedan 1967 Ford Fairlane coupe Ford Fairlane coupe [edit] Thunderbolt As the muscle car market took shape, Ford introduced a Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt for drag racing for 1964, heavily modified to incorporate Fords 427 CID (7.0 L) V8 race enegine with two four-barrel carburetors on a high-riser manifold, ram-air through the openings left by deleting the inboard headlights, equal-length headers, trunk-mounted battery, fiberglass hood, doors, fenders and front bumper, acrylic glass windows, and other lightweight options including deleted rear door window winders, carpeting, radio, sealant, sun visors, armrests, jack, lug wrench, heater, soundproofing, and passenger side windshield wiper. The cars wore Fairlane 500 trim, and were only offered with the 2-door sedan body. This special model, of which 111 to 127 total were made (sources disagree),[who?] delivered 600 hp (447 kW) at 7,000 rpm and was known as the Thunderbolt. Racing in NHRA Super Stock class on 7-inch (180 mm)-wide tires, the Thunderbolt was based on the mid-level Fairlane 500 two door pillared sedan, and in 1964 set elapsed time and top speed records at 11.6 seconds and 124 mph (200 km/h), .[3] took the Super Stock title, and won the Manufacturer's Cup; it is probably the quickest and fastest production drag racer ever produced. The car as delivered was in fact slightly too light to meet NHRA's 3200 lb (1451 kg) minimum weight unless it was raced with a full tank of gasoline, which would bring it to 3203 lb (1453 kg). NHRA rules then[clarification needed] required a metal front bumper, so the cars began to be supplied with an aluminum bumper and previous purchasers were supplied with one. Finally,[clarification needed] the NHRA changed the rules to require 500 models of a car to be manufactured for Super Stock competition, and Ford, which had been losing $1500 to $2000 on each Thunderbolt sold at the sticker price of $3900, gave up. The first 11 Thunderbolts were painted maroon (known as Vintage Burgundy in Ford literature), the rest white; 99 had manual transmissions. Many are still raced. About 50 similar Mercury Cyclones were also produced by Ford in 1964, destined to be modified to represent Ford in A/FX competition, which they dominated as well. [edit] Arrival of the Torino A redesign took place in 1968. The wheelbase remained 116 in (2,946 mm), but it grew in other dimensions. A fastback Sportsroof model was introduced in the Fairlane 500 series, as well as a more luxurious Torino model at the top of the intermediate range, contributing 172,083 of the Fairlane's 371,787 units sold that year.[4] The Ranch Wagon model name was deleted: Fairlane wagons had either the base or the 500 trim. Base hardtop sales more than doubled, to 44,683 units.[5] In the beginning of 1968 the base model Fairlane was sold with the 2-Barrel 289 cid V8, until Ford decided to replace the 289 with the 302 cid as standard.[6] The GTs were part of the Torino range, with a 302 cubic inches (4.9 l) V8 standard, with optional engines being the 390 cubic inches (6.4 l) V8 in 2- and 4-barrel versions. The 390 4-barrel was supplanted mid-year as the top performance engine by the 428 cubic inches (7.0 l) Cobra Jet, developing 335 bhp (250 kW). There was also a 428 cubic inches (7.0 l) Super Cobra Jet. The Ranchero had a GT model, in addition to standard and 500 versions. The Cobra was introduced in 1969 as a competitor for Plymouth's Road Runner. Basic models featured the 302 CID V8 and three-speed manual transmission as standard. Options included the 390 CID and two 428 CID V8s. The Cobras, meanwhile, had a standard 428 CID V8 with 335 bhp (250 kW), and options included bucket seats, hood scoop, clock, tachometer, power disc brakes and 4.30:1 rear axle gearing. "Regular" Fairlanes and Rancheros continued, all with bucket-seat options. An even more powerful version, the Torino Talladega, was created to compete on the NASCAR Grand National speedways. Only 754 were built. Like the Plymouth Superbird, the Sportsroof-based Talledega got a sloped nose and flush grille. The 428 CID V8 was standard, but mated to a C-6 Cruise-o-Matic automatic transmission. The Fairlane models became a sub-series of Torino. The straight six-cylinder was the economy power, while largest engine was now a 429 cu in (7.0 l) with four-barrel carburetor and 360 bhp (270 kW), on the Torino Cobra. Different heads were optional and gave the Cobra 370 bhp (280 kW) and higher compression. Other options included the Cobra Jet Ram Air 429, though Ford quoted the same power output, and the Drag Pack rated at 375 bhp (280 kW). However, the 1970s were slower than the 1969s, and race teams were forced to run the older models. The Falcon name was transferred from Ford's now discontinued compact to a basic, low trim version of the intermediate platform as a "1970½" model on January 1, 1970. For 1971, the Falcon, Fairlane and Fairlane 500 names were all dropped, as all of the intermediate models took the Torino name. [edit] Ford Fairlane in Argentina The Argentine Ford Fairlane The four-door sedan of the 1968 body style was built in Argentina from 1969 to 1981 under the Fairlane name with three equipment packages: Standard, 500 and LTD. The car was similar to the American model except the engines. There were two options: a 221 CID 6-cylinder with 132 hp (98 kW), and the old 292 CID "Y-Block" V8 which had been last used in the 1964 F-Series truck; it was rated at 185 hp (138 kW). In 1978 the LTD "Elite" option was introduced as the most luxurious made in Argentina. By the end of production in 1981, almost 30,000 Fairlanes had been made. [edit] 2005 concept The Ford Fairlane concept car at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show At the 2005 Auto Show circuit, Ford revealed a new concept car with the Fairlane nameplate.[7] The "people-mover" Fairlane crossover utility vehicle concept featured three-row seating for six passengers, and previewed the chromed three bar horizontal grill design, which currently appears on the 2006 Ford Fusion sedan and 2007 Ford Edge crossover utility vehicle."[8][9] [edit] Production model See Ford Flex A production version of the Fairlane concept, which is now called the Ford Flex, has debuted at the 2007 New York Auto Show, and entered production for the 2009 model year in summer 2008. Unlike the concept, the production model comes with 7 seats. It is built on the Ford D3 platform, which is also used by the Ford Taurus, and Mercury Sable. Please help improve it by removing unnecessary details and making it more concise. (January 2008) Ford Fairlane, "Rock n' Roll Detective," is seen sitting on a beach smoking as the film opens. A flashback initiates, showing a roaring crowd at a concert given by fictional popular heavy metal band The Black Plague. Lead singer Bobby Black (Vince Neil) makes an eccentric entrance down a zip-line onto the stage and begins performing. Shortly into one of the band's songs, Bobby Black collapses on stage and dies. After The Black Plague singer is murdered onstage, shock-jock Johnny Crunch, (Gilbert Gottfried) an old friend who came west with Fairlane, hires Ford to track down a mysterious teenage groupie named Zuzu Petals who may have a connection to Bobby Black's death. Soon after hiring Fairlane, Crunch is electrocuted on the air. The world's hippest detective soon finds himself trading insults with a ruthless record executive (Wayne Newton), a clueless cop (Ed O'Neill), a merciless hit man (Robert Englund) and countless ex-girlfriends out for his blood. Aiding and abetting Fairlane in this whodunnit is loyal assistant Jazz (Lauren Holly) and a hip musician (Morris Day) at the head of a bizarre lineup of suspects, victims and beautiful women as he finds himself hip-deep in the case of his life. The macguffin of the film is three data CDs which, when read simultaneously, detail the illegal dealings of Julian Grendel, who murdered Bobby Black when he found out Black had acquired them. The first disc was with Colleen Sutton, the second with Zuzu Petals, and the third disc was hidden under the star for Art Mooney on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. [edit] Cast Andrew Dice Clay ... Melodi [edit] Soundtrack Music being central to the plot of a film about a private detective who specializes in cases arising from the music industry, the soundtrack featured a diverse group of artists. The official soundtrack release had the following tracks: "Cradle of Love" - Billy Idol "Sea Cruise" - Dion "Funky Attitude" - Sheila E. "Glad to Be Alive" - Lisa Fisher, Teddy Pendergrass "Can't Get Enough" - Tone Loc "Rock 'N Roll Junkie" - Mötley Crüe "I Ain't Got You" - Andrew Dice Clay "Last Time in Paris" - Queensrÿche "Unbelievable" - Yello "Wind Cries Mary" - Richie Sambora The film's soundtrack is notable for its inclusion of Idol's "Cradle of Love", the video for which was shown often on MTV in 1990. The song also appeared on Idol's 1990 album Charmed Life. In the video, a young woman, played by Betsy Lynn George, taunts an uptight neighbor with her advances as she dances to the music. The video also featured footage from the film playing on a television in the neighbor's home, although none of the footage features Clay (at least not his face). This may be due to the infamous ban of Clay from appearing on the music network. Alternate versions of the "Cradle of Love" video eliminates the film footage when the video is usually aired on MTV. Sambora's contribution to the soundtrack was a cover of the Jimi Hendrix song. EMF's "Unbelievable" samples bits of dialogue from the film, but did not feature on the soundtrack. A number of the musicians featured on the soundtrack also appeared in the film itself, including Morris Day, Sheila E., Tone Loc (as Slam the Rapper), former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo appears playing the Black Plague concert during the flashback at the beginning of the film and Vince Neil, the lead singer of Mötley Crüe (who appeared as Bobby Black, the lead singer of the fictitious band, Black Plague). Black Plague's lead guitarist was played by Quiet Riot's axeman Carlos Cavazzo. Not appearing on the soundtrack is "Booty Time", the song that Ed O'Neill's character performs during the film. Yello is credited with the film's "music score", and an early cut of their album Baby is used as the film's incidental soundtrack. [edit] Reception [edit] Critical response The film received mostly negative reviews upon release and holds a "rotten" 26% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. [1] Critic Roger Ebert called the film "loud, ugly and mean-spirited". [2] It was not a financial success during its original theatrical release, making just over $21 million in the U.S. [3] Clay has claimed in interviews that the movie had a successful first week before being pulled from theaters under pressure from the politically correct. The film "won" the 1990 Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor (Andrew Dice Clay), Worst Picture (Joel Silver & Steve Perry - tied with Ghosts Can't Do It) and Worst Screenplay (Daniel Waters, James Cappe and David Arnott). It was also nominated for Worst Director and twice for Worst Supporting Actor (for both Gilbert Gottfried and Wayne Newton). [4] Billy Idol's recording of "Cradle of Love" was named one of the "Most Performed Songs from Motion Pictures" by the ASCAP. [5] In Hungary the film was probably the biggest phenomenon of the video tape era in the early '90s. Illegal copies of the movie were circulating in the country. The popularity was given by the Hungarian dubbing of the movie: obscene language was used and Fairlane was dubbed by a rock singer (Feró Nagy) who had a hoarse voice and compared to Ford's personality, a totally unmatching character. In Norway, after the movie was released on VHS in 1992, Ford Fairlane soon became a phenomenon. A lot of its catchphrases quickly became hugely popular and the movie received cult status during the 1990s. After huge demand from Norwegian audiences, the movie was released on DVD in the early 2000s. It also became quite popular in Spain, especially due to the dubbing of the movie by the popular singer, actor and comedian Pablo Carbonell. They also included some references to music bands from that era like Alaska y Dinarama, and some catchphrases or insults like "menosmola" (Cool-less). One of them is that all the rock stars pay him with drum sticks, koala bears, food processors and bicycle shorts. Another one of them is that all his employers that want him to find a girl named Zuzu Petals get killed. Why didn't he become a fisherman's detective instead? A must-see for Andrew Dice Clay fans. If you listen to the video release, you can even hear an obvious difference between "1-800" and "UNBELIEVABLE" where it was dubbed over. User Reviews Andrew "Dice" Clay, actor.... 3 March 2005 | by Miyagis_Sweaty_wifebeater (sirjosephu@aol.com) (Sacramento, CA) – See all my reviews The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990) was a starring vehicle for Andrew "Dice" Clay. It was made to capitalize on his short mainstream career. After this film he made a concert movie that was shot in M.S.G. He's the only comic to ever sell out that arena. The movie follows Clay as he tries to solve a perplexing case, it has more twists than a pretzel. but not as interesting or satisfying. Can the Dice Man finish the case and get the girl or will he fall victim to the evil bad guy? Are you brave enough to watch Andrew "Dice" Clay try and carry as film? If you are then go out and watch "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane".The director even shot the movie in widescreen, giving it the classy treatment. A cast filled with b-movie actors and t.v. stars ( Ed O'Neil, Robert Englund, Priscella Presely, Wayne Newton) and a few music stars as well. They do their best to try and living up the film but it's all old hat and tiresome. The movie is nothing more than a novelty act for the Dice Man.For die hard Andrew "Dice" Clay fans. Others will either be bored or wont see what's all the hub bub. 6 of 9 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful to you? Heavily promoted, with soundtrack and comic book tie-ins, the flick sank without a trace, leaving just a small, oily stain. Undaunted, Clay keeps threatening to make a comeback. I know, I know. The film was stupid. And crude. And so transparently, deliberately offensive and tasteless and vulgar that, so help me, I thought it was kinda funny. The lathered-on obnoxiousness of Clay's stage persona is a plus to his screen role. Sure, Ford Fairlane's a jerk, but at the time, he seemed like a breath of fresh air, so ridiculously over-the-top, so obviously a cartoon, that it's hard to believe anyone could take him seriously. Sorta like an amped-up cross between Archie Bunker and the Fonz, Clay played a self-styled private eye specializing in cases involving the music industry. A failed musician himself, he had a love/hate affair with his reputation as "the rock 'n' roll detective." As Ford put it,"Fucking rock stars! I mean, how am I going to pay my taxes with bathtub compact disc players and autographed drumsticks?" He dressed like a throwback, a rocker from the fifties, and tooled around in a classic -- what else? -- Ford Fairlane. He was arrogant as hell, but the chicks -- Whoa! -- just couldn't get enough of him. Whoa! His prize possession was a Fender Stratocaster once used by Jimi Hendrix, which he seemed to care about more than he did for most people. His long-suffering gal Friday was called Jazz. Of course, she's secretly in love with the boss. Natch. Whoa! But like I said, for some reason I enjoyed it.. And Ford even got to strut his rock'n'roll chops, performing a credible version of Clarence Carter's "I Aint Got You." A host of cameos by various slumming artists added to the fun. But of course it's definitely not for everyone. Like a character says,"You know, Fairlane, sometimes you can be a real dick!" * * * * * Ford Fairlane was originally created as a monthly serial by journalist Rex Weiner and appeared in such weekly alternatives as the New York Rocker and the LA Weekly in the early eighties.
