factory applied paint finish. 2 owners from new, the first a friend of the second and just 19,600 genuine miles. Always garaged when not in use, correctly laid up every winter and only ever used in the summer months when the weather was fine. Just 5,000 miles since 1992 and dry stored for much of that time. The very best of the best and almost certainly the lowest mileage original condition example available anywhere. Simply stunning! After the success of the Zephyr and Zodiac ranges in the Sixties a new decade brought the need for an all new Large Luxury Ford Saloon. The Granada was launched in March 1972, with the 2 litre V4 and V6 Essex engine models initially badged Ford Consul. Latterly though, in 1975, the name Consul was dropped and the whole range adopted the Granada name. In September 1977, Ford announced its new Granada, the Mark 11 with cleaner, more elegant body style and featuring German built 2.3 and 2.8 engines. By continuously upgrading Granada`s competitive specification, subtly improving interior and exterior design details, the Granada went on to become the industry`s benchmark for large car style, comfort and driver appeal. Its excellent overall package and value for money also helped it to maintain high retained values in the used car market against a backdrop of continuing oil crises and fuel price increases. A face lift in late 1981 followed by further enhancements in 1982 kept even the lower specification models well in front of the competition. However it was the mid range, the 2.8 GL that really excelled. Streets ahead of anything in its class its standard specification was way ahead of its time. Standard equipment included central locking, power steering, electric slide and tilt sunroof, electric mirrors, FM radio cassette, 4 speakers and electric aerial, electric front seat, front and rear map lights, smoke tinted glass and so on. It is nearly 3 decades now since production of the mark 2 Granada ceased and they are now becoming rare with unrestored, original bodied, well cared for, low mileage, rust free examples becoming increasingly hard to find. Consequently these are the cars that are now highly sought after and it is these examples that are most highly desired, especially the 2.8 engined version. You would be hard pushed to find an original one at all, but one that has had just 2 owners from new, that has covered just 19,000 genuine miles, is in immaculate totally original condition where everything mentioned above works, and that has been loved, cherished and garaged since new - surely such a car can’t exist, can it? Actually yes it can - and it does! B207 ORF On the 1st of January 1985 the first owner of B207 ORF, a newsagent and Ford enthusiast in his late Fifties, travelled the 7 miles from his home to Ford Main dealers and long established family firm Burns Garages Ltd of Congleton. The purpose of his visit was to collect the car of his dreams a new Ford Granada 2.8 GL auto finished in, new for the 85 model, Lacquer Red with grey velour trim. No factory options had been ordered and the only dealer extra was the application of protective underseal applied to the whole of the underside and for added protection a couple of inches up the front and rear valances and the sills. Never intended to be a car for daily use, the owner had a works vehicle for that, but more for high days and holidays B207 ORF was always destined to lead a cherished life, it was the owner’s intention that it should see him through his retirement. The new owner would not take his new pride and joy out in the rain or even if rain were forecast. The car was always garaged when not in use. As a newsagent the owner worked every day and in fact the opportunity to use the car rarely presented itself consequently B207 ORF saw very infrequent use. According to the service book, present in the file, by the time the car was 8 months old it had covered just 1,544 miles and as the car approached its third birthday the mileage in the service book is stamped, for what should have been the 12,000 mile service, by the supplying dealer at just 4,201. The owner continued to cherish the B207 ORF in the same way throughout his ownership. It would be cleaned and polished every fortnight even if it had not been used and even though the owner was a smoker himself there was an absolute ban on smoking in the car. Consequently all the ashtrays and lighters are unused and the headlining shows not discolouration caused by smoke. In the late eighties the owner inherited an almost new top of the range Volvo from a deceased relative, but he was a Ford man. The Granada retained pride of place in the garage – the Volvo was banished to the outside. However by the early nineties the owner had retired and impending loss of a garage meant that he had to make the hard decision to dispose of his beloved Granada. A friend of the first owner showed interest in buying the car for his daughter and her husband. The owner agreed to sell it to them on condition that they continued to care for the car in the same way that he had over the years – they wholeheartedly agreed to do so and on the 12th August 1992 B207 ORF was transferred into the daughter’s name. The second owner recalls, 20 years later, the day that they got the car, she even remembers the exact mileage, 13,380, and the first owner telling her that he had never had any paintwork carried out on the car and making her promise faithfully to take the best care of it, pledging that he would visit every year to inspect the car to make sure that she did. The second owner used B207 ORF even less frequently than the first; again it had not been bought as a car for daily use. It continued to be garaged and never intentionally used in the rain. In fact it was only ever used during the summer months when the weather was fine and was often laid up in correct dry storage for years on end. The 2001 MOT shows the mileage as 18,034 B207 ORF has been in the care of its last owner for 20 years. During that time it has been self serviced by the owners husband on a regular basis, never received any paint rectification and has covered only a further 5,000 miles bringing the total genuine mileage to 19,600 since new. The second owner’s husband has provided us with written testimony of all of the above. The second owner dutifully upheld her promise to the first owner to fastidiously care for B207 ORF (as he promised he would overseen by the first owner) and today it is presented in outstanding original and factory correct condition. A show winner in the making - if ever we saw one. BODYWORK The body/paintwork is superb, retains a fantastic lustre and has never had had any work done to it since it was new. Even the coach lines are those fitted at the factory. As we have said the first owner gave assurances to the second owner that he had never had any paint rectification carried out and the second owner has given written assurances that none has been carried out since he has owned it. However on very close inspection we think that there may have been a couple of tiny areas of localised rectification to the paintwork carried out by the supplying Dealer, as was often the case in the eighties, prior to delivery to the first owner. Even the trained eye would be extremely hard pushed to spot it though. B207 ORF is remarkably rust free and of course has not had, does not need and should never require, if keep in the same way as it has been to date, any welding We have just had a tiny scrape no bigger than a thumb nail attended to on one of the rear arches as this was the only mark of any significance although a couple of miniscule dimple dents that are hardly bigger than a match head do remain. There are one or two tiny stone chips and blemishes that have been touched up with a touch up brush over the years. Door boot and bonnet shuts are outstanding and as good as any we have ever seen on a car of this age. All the glass is original. The bright work is fantastic with just the start of a little oxidisation to a couple of the side window trims. Plastic and rubber external trim is almost perfect but one of the rear rubber over riders has just started to delaminate on the top and there is a faint craze to one of the rear bumper end caps but these could both easily and inexpensively be repaired. Overall though the paint finish is that applied in the factory and is truly outstanding. INTERIOR The interior is exemplary it is immediately obvious that this is an exceptionally low mileage car that has been cherished and never subjected to the elements for long periods. The seats and carpets are unmarked. The dash is not cracked and has not had any holes cut in it. The door cards have not had holes cut and have not misshapen. A small area of the vinyl has come unstuck on the door arm rest and needs re sticking. The headlining is excellent and not tobacco stained. Correct and standard Ford FM radio with cassette player. Everything tested works as it should. UNDER THE BONNET The engine bay is exceptionally clean with original stickers in place. No signs of corrosion and presenting only like a low mileage car can. Original grey Factory paint to engine and ancillaries. In line fuel cat for unleaded fitted. ON THE ROAD Having specialised in providing exceptionally low mileage unrestored cars from the seventies and eighties we are fortunate to have driven many cars over the years that could be described as “driving as new”. However none fit that description more so than B207 ORF. It is an absolute delight to drive we cannot fault it. Everything works just as it should; it is quiet, smooth, responsive and still has that as new tight feel. We deify anyone not to just fall in love with this car HISTORY FILE 1. V5c Showing 1 previous owner. 2. MOT end of January 2013. 3. Some old MOT’s. 4. Tax disc holder, unused key fob, rear window sticker and number plate from the supplying dealer plus a printed book titled “70 years of progress” giving the history of Burns Garages ltd are in the file or on the car. 5. Plastic wallet branded Ford and Burns Garage ltd with handbook, service book, Ford accessories pamphlet, guide to Ford dealers dated August 1984 and all associated Ford papers that came with the car. SUMMARY If you have followed our previous listings in the past you will know that we have offered some of the finest, lowest mileage, original condition vehicles from the 70’s and 80’s. Vehicles that we constantly are able to justifiably describe as outstanding, breathtaking or indeed the very best of their type available. B207 ORF is without doubt entirely worthy of this type of description. Furthermore it is, obviously, no ordinary Mk2 Granada and as such it should not be compared to even the best of the rest. It is as close as you may ever get to obtaining such a 1985 MK2 2.8 GL auto. It is remarkably rust free. It has not had any body or paint work since new and requires absolutely nothing doing at all. It has been cherished, loved and cared almost all of its life by two fastidious owners who have looked after it with a passion that is rarely seen. It is a collectors and enthusiasts dream it is totally original and almost as it left the supplying Dealer 27 years ago - although with 19,600 miles more and the few minor imperfections mentioned. You may never again get such an opportunity to acquire such a car, it must surely be a once in a lifetime chance not to be missed. VALUE Low mileage, condition, and originality will contribute greatly to the value of any classic. B207 ORF tops all these categories and as such will be of great interest to collectors and enthusiasts, however, it will also appeal to those who just want to use it and cherish it – in the same way its previous owners have. This car is way, way above the average Granada 2.8 GL’s that are for sale at a few thousand pounds and it is almost impossible to find one for price comparison. The closest that we could find though, albeit a Ghia but with 10,000 miles more and described as being in similar condition was sold recently with an advertised price of £15,000. The reserve on our car though is set way, way below half of that figure, which is less than you could restore one to this standard for and an amount that should make this one a sure fire sound investment for the future and that will provide immense fun along the way. ORIGINAL V RESTORED - OUR VIEW We endeavour, on the whole, to offer original, genuine, exceptionally low mileage and unrestored cars from the 1970,s and 1980,s. Almost all cars from this era have had a little paint rectification carried out at some time during their 20-40 years. However there is, of course, a huge difference between rectification of paint work and total vehicle restoration. Paint rectification at the factory post production line or, indeed, by the supplying dealer was common in the 70’s and 80’s when most cars were sprayed by hand as opposed to today’s automated processes. From time to time we will offer a car that has had some paint rectification for these reasons or perhaps to localised areas following parking mishaps etcetera. Occasionally we may offer a car that has had rather more paint rectification although we will always endeavour to make this known in the description. It will be very rare however for us to offer a car that has had a full restoration, and only then if we have satisfied ourselves of the quality of the work. It is becoming extremely difficult to obtain an unrestored 20-40 year old car. By and large they were just not built to last in the 70’s and 80’s. However, if you do find an original example that’s survived the chances are that, if looked after, it should last for many more years, after all it will only have lasted this long because it will have had little use and been extraordinarily well cared for previously. The same, unfortunately, is far less likely to be able to be said for a car that has under gone renovation. We think that you simply cannot beat a straight original example of any item. There is a school of thought that believes that if you take something apart and then put it back together you are just recreating that item in a false attempt to make it as it was in its former glory, and that no matter how well a vehicle has been restored it can only be original once. Whereas we know that many restorations are done to the highest standards we believe that there are far more that are not. Who really knows what skulduggery may lie beneath a car that has possibly covered hundreds of thousands of miles then been restored at least one time or maybe even more than once! In our view if a car has required restoration then by default it must have become worn out, tired and have most probably been neglected. It is interesting to note that of late we have sold some of our best cars to some of that particular Marques top and best known restorers. Even they know, in their hearts, that one thing is for sure a car that has been the subject of restoration, no matter how good will, almost with out exception, lack the spirit and soul of an original example and probably cost 3 times as much to complete and be worth less than the original when done! the 2 litre pinto with 4 speed manual box and starts first time every time and drives very well, speedo is showing just over 20k but im sure its been round the clock but then id be suprised if it was the original engine, interiour is showing some signs of its age but is all there, only real bads points are the cortina steering wheel and those awfull seat covers, all the chrome seems to be there and is pretty good, has the mk1 steel wheels which look the part with good tyres all round, has mot until 30 may 2012 and no tax, log book is showing 5 former keepers. Obviously this car is 34 years old and has probably had some welding done over the years that I have not seen and while it is a very good example it is not in showroom condition. At first, lower models in the range were called the Ford Consul, but from 1975 on they were all called Granadas. The car soon became popular for taxi, fleet and police usage. It was also converted into limousine and hearse versions by the British companies Coleman Milne and Woodall Nicholson. Traditional four-door limousines were offered (both long and short versions) alongside an unusual four-door "coupé limousine" (only 12 built)[4], as well as hearses in either two- or four-door configurations.[5] European Ford Consul, 2 door saloon: the lesser equipped version was initially badged as a Ford Consul, but from 1975 the entire range carried the Granada name. European Ford Granada Mark I coupé original version European Ford Granada Mark I coupé later version Mechanically, the European Granada conformed to Ford convention, the initial range using the Ford Essex V4 unit in 2.0 L displacement, and the "Essex" V6 engine in 2.5 and 3.0 L capacities. German models employed a Ford Taunus V4 engine in 1.7 L displacement, or the 3.0L Essex V6, or, more commonly the "Cologne" V6 in 2.0, 2.3 or 2.6 L capacities. The V4 was later replaced by the Pinto unit. The car generally followed mechanical layout of its predecessors Ford Zephyr/Zodiac, utilizing a coil sprung independent rear end, although front McPherson struts were replaced by double wishbones, introduced 18 months earlier in smaller TC Cortina and Taunus. On the other hand the Granada – like Ford 17M/20M/26M – featured drum brakes at rear, as opposed to the Ford Zephyr/Zodiac rear disc brakes. The cars were available as two- and four-door saloons, a five-door estate (Turnier) and two-door fastback coupé. The early (1972–73) coupé had slightly different sheet metal; a more pronounced coke bottle styling. In 1974 the coupé was revised, with more straight lines. The "coke-bottle" coupé was never sold or produced in the UK. A revised coupé was sold only in Ghia-trim in the UK; elsewhere in all trims with all engines available. This was the reverse of the situation with the TC Cortina and Taunus, where the British model had the "coke-bottle" styling. In South Africa, the Granada Perana V8, built by Basil Green Motors, was available through Ford dealers with the 302 CID Windsor V8 engine, developing 255 PS (188 kW; 252 hp) 405 N·m (299 lb·ft) at 2600 rpm. It was a development of the previous car, the main differences being the "Cologne" V6 engine in 2.0 L, 2.3 L and 2.8 L forms replacing the older "Essex" unit (which had never been offered in the Cologne built Granadas), and the introduction of features such as air conditioning and, for the top price 2.8 litre versions, fuel-injection. In mainland Europe, a 1.7 L V4 was originally available. By the time of its introduction, UK Granada production had been quietly abandoned "for some time": UK market Granada IIs were imported from Germany.[13] Internally within Ford, the "Cologne" 1.7, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.8 units were the last derivatives of the 'V-Taunus' range of engines. European Ford 1980 Granada 2 door European Ford 1981 Granada Estate: the design of the rear portion was carried over from the Mark I Granada estate The coupé was discontinued when the new model began production, although there was a 2-door saloon version in certain European markets. A relatively low number of vehicles were also produced with the Peugeot 504 / 505 four-cylinder diesel engine in 1.9[citation needed], 2.1 and 2.5 litre capacities. Originally only available as four-door sedans (the later 2.5 also as an estate), most of these went to taxi operators and few survive. As the range matured another two models were introduced. A sports based Granada was introduced as the Granada 2.8 Injection which had white alloy wheels and a black bootlid spoiler. This model borrowed the 2.8i "injected" engine from the Ghia model range. Towards the end of its production run, the introduction of the 2.0 and 2.3 LX saloon and estate UK marketing packs provided versions with a slightly higher specification than the "base" L models. A special Ford of Britain only marketing pack edition of the Ghia X model was later introduced as the "Ford Granada Ghia X Executive" which standardised luxury appointments such as the high grade Connolly Leather interior that had previously been an optional fitment. There was also a special "Taxi" edition, available only in black, which included a foot-operated "panic button" in the drivers' footwell which would operate the alarm system. In addition to these two models the range was complemented by estate models which reflected the same appointment levels as the entire saloon range including the Ghia X, but not the Ghia X Executive model. [edit] Special models Ford subcontracted assembly to Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea for export of this model to Southeast Asian countries, where it continued to be sold, from October 1978 to 1986 when it gave way to the Hyundai Grandeur unlike smaller European Fords like the Sierra and Escort. Additionally, hearses were offered by outside conversion companies, as well as a series of four-door limousines built by Coleman Milne.[14] These included the slightly stretched "Minster" 15 cm, and the 68 cm longer "Dorchester" and better equipped "Grosvenor". As of autumn 1982 the Dorchester was also available in an estate version with elongated rear doors, called the "Windsor".[15] [edit] Ford Granada Mark III (1985–94) Main article: Ford Scorpio Ford Granada Mark III Ford Granada Mark III 24v Cosworth In April 1985 the third-generation car arrived, which was essentially a rebadged Ford Scorpio, the Granada name being used in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland only, with the Scorpio badge (which covered the whole range in Continental Europe) being reserved for the top-range versions. The Mark III Granada was unique in being the first European volume production model with anti-lock brakes fitted as standard across the range. Engine options included the familiar SOHC Pinto engine, in either tax-barrier undercutting 1.8 L form, or a more powerful 2 litre version with fuel injection available. The Cologne V6 engines were carried over from the previous range in short-lived (and not much more powerful than the 2 L Pinto) 2.4 L, and 2.8 L (later 2.9 L) capacities. In 1991 A new range-topping vehicle was introduced, the Scorpio 24-valve. It featured a 2.9 L Cologne engine that had been extensively re-worked by Cosworth Engineering and featured quad camshafts and 24 valves, enough for 200 bhp (150 kW). According to Ford this gave a 0-60 mph time of 8.1 seconds and top speed of 140 mph (230 km/h). This version of the Granada continued the "Ford family" styling concept from the previous versions; this time the car superficially resembled a larger version of the Cortina's successor, the Ford Sierra.
