| | 2001 FORD PUMA MILLENIUM RED .
hi this is a ford puma 1.7 i am selling the car as spares or repairs the reasons being the car needs work doing to it. the car itself starts 1st time every ...> time without fail it has tax till the end of march and has about 5 months M.O.T still on it. now the bad bits, it could do with a new paint job as you can see by the pictures its not to good, when driving the car ( as i still use it for work) it jerks not constantly but it does sometimes have been told it could be the coil pack or leads to the spark plugs also i think it could do with a new front left dampner or suspension because when you go round a corner or over a speed hump with somebody in the passenger seat you can hear a scraping sound but when on a normal straight road its fine 1 ast thing you may want to do is fix the interior door panels to the side properly because they dont seem to be on properly other than that the car is fine and drivable like i said i use it on a daily basis while waiting for my other car to be fixed X

Overall Rating 24 Reviews For Ford Ka Millenium LTD Edition katiekatie 30th May 2008 Reviewer rating: katiekatie's review has yet to be rated - Be the first! Report this review Good Points: Cheap to run. £30 a tank (well that's not considering the rocketing fuel prices). High-end features at a low cost, i.e. leather seats, air con, alloys, cd player etc. It's unique, reliable and fun to drive!
Bad Points: I haven't really got much to say. The only issue I had, is that after an annual service, my KA came back and the door wouldn't unlock on the drivers side. I could lock it, just not unlock, so had to walk to passengers side to unlock car. I found out this was a known fault with the ford KA, a colleague of mine has a KA and can only unlock the boot so had to climb in that way! I have just had mine fixed. It was time consuming for the mechanic, but cost me very little, way under £100, around £60 (I had a few upkeep things done aswell e.g. spark plugs). So watch out for the lock!
General comments: I absolutely love my little yellow special edition Ford KA, although I have to sell it shortly as I need a car that's a little more 'discreet'! But I am going to be sad to see it go. It is nippy, cosy yet comfortable with the lovely leather interior. I usually find it impossible to park, but not in my KA. I have had it for 3/4 years now and it fits in the littlest spaces and solves my parking problems! This is not the car for you if you want to blend into the background! It's a little headturner, even if it is no Aston Martin! It's reliable, NEVER has it broken down. It has great features, with air con, cd, alloys, leather steering wheel. All in all, it's a perfect first car, especially for all those girlie girls out there. Report this review I brought the Millenium LTD Edition KA as my 1st car last August. Everyone loves my car and its very well known as there's only 2 in my area. Its cheap reliable and wasn't to expensive to fix when I gave it a little knock! Its a wonderful car I would recommend it to anyone and will be keeping it for a very very long time! Report this review I bought this Ford Ka Millenium LTD Edition car to use whilst at university. I was commuting from Swindon to Bristol and needed a cheap but cool car to drive. I have never regretted it. She has been so reliable and so cheap to run, minimal repairs and fun to drive. I would recommend it to anyone, it's a fab car!! Got into a massive accident and the Ka was very very very reliable! I came out with not a scratch and was very lucky. I am very grateful that the Ka held up under all the force and I recommend one to anyone. Great car, excellent to drive. This is cheaper that you can buy Korean cars! Wait for the special deals they have. I found it excellent fun, comfortable and cheap on fuel averaging 43 mpg. It has the newer engine in it which you have to hold back on the motorway to stop it going towards 90 mph. Would this car be good for you? It depends what you want. Report this review Bought a 2001 (x reg) Ford Ka 'Now' from local garage in November 2004. Generally impressed by the car, particularly how it feels to drive: it feels like a much bigger car. I have travelled very long distances in this car and have noted its really good fuel economy and levels of comfort. I find the car quiet and stable feeling, even when doing very high speeds. It does have it's downsides: various unexplained noises and some shoddy interior bits and pieces. Not as fast off the lights as I would ... Plus its Bright Yellow and it definetly turns heads. It has Gorgeous Good Looks, Full Leather Interior, Air Conditioning, Power Stearing, Electric Windows, Cd player as standard. The Ka has proved to be very easy to drive (my wife learnt to drive and passed her test in ours) and is quite relaxed on the motorway. If pushed the engine can sound a bit harsh and is slightly underpowered, especially if the air con is used but during normal everyday driving the little Ka is a pleasure to use. Report this review Bought a 99T Ford ka collection in 2002. First car since passing test. Bought it because even though I was unsure on the looks, I knew it handled well. Bought it with no problems, only slight rust to both passengers and drivers sills. Common Ford problem that happens with all kas up to 2003 when although Ford say there was no problem, suddenly Ford changed the sills. So if they didnt reconise a problem, why did Ford change it????. Report this review I bought my Ford Ka as a cheap and chearful car to drive across twisty fells each day. Every review you read, points out what a good drivers car they are. And, it is, excet one point that I can't get on with and doesn't get a mention anywhere - the drivers seat is the most uncomfortable device I've ever come across. In 16 years of motoring in all sorts of contraptions, I've always been comfortable enough no matter how long I've driven the thing - NOT the Ka, it's a relief to get out even after a ... Mine has 71,000 miles on the clock & has had hardly no mantainance done. Still going strong, no cambelt but engine tends to be tappety on high revs. I think that I must of set a land speed record for one of these as the fastest I have pushed is 112 mph which is quite impressive for a 1.3 pushrod!! I'm living in Germany at the moment and as such, use the famous speed limitless Autobahns regularly. The wee thing hammers along at 100mph, no problem. Tough as a tank, it'll take a major thrashing (35mph in first!). Plus it is ultra reliable and will start first time every time. Ford have put in a workhorse engine. In the wet it slides around corners like a peach wih a good mix of power in 2nd and great responsive steering and a chassis that wants to be thrown about. It's been a great car and has managed to get across from the North of England to Geneva with no problems. It's only let down by two things. I've driven many cars and the quality of the seat fabric is terrible. After 20,000 miles the fabric has worn down. The other problem is the rear wiper/boot release. All Pumas are front-engined, front-wheel-drive, 3-door (driver, passenger and rear hatchback) coupés with 4 seats. They came with 15-inch (380 mm) alloy wheels as standard, (although the Ford Racing Puma was equipped with 17-inch (430 mm) alloy wheels), with front disc and rear drum brakes. The car was based on the Mark 4 Ford Fiesta, with new engines (codeveloped with Yamaha), a new body, stiffer suspension and close-ratio gearbox, among other changes. 1.7L Zetec-S VCT engine in a 1999 Ford Puma Pumas used a choice of four engine configurations: 1.4-litre 90 bhp (67 kW; 91 PS) , 1.6-litre 103 bhp (77 kW; 104 PS) , 1.7-litre VCT 125 PS (92 kW; 123 hp), or the tuned 1.7-litre VCT 155 PS (114 kW; 153 hp) (only used in the Ford Racing Puma), [1] each of which used Ford's 16v Sigma engines branded as Zetec-S. The 1.7-litre engines used Nikasil cylinder plating, which required a specific grade of oil (5W30 semi-synthetic) to minimise mechanical wear.
All 1.7-litre-engined Pumas were equipped with low speed traction control and anti-lock brakes. The anti-lock braking system was optional to the 1.4 Pumas.
Weighing approximately 1,100 kg (2,400 lb) without optional accessories,[2] the 1.7 125 PS version accelerated from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 8.8 seconds, and could accelerate from 30 to 70 mph (48 to 112 km/h) in 8.8 seconds.

[edit] Millennium Edition
Quantity Produced: 1000
Years available: 1999(V) to 2000(X)
The Ford Millennium Edition cars were produced to commemorate the Millennium Products Award from the Design Council [3] in 1999 for being 'The first Ford in Britain designed solely on computer and in record time.'. The Ford Ka and Ford Focus also received the same award, and were produced in the same quantity with the same paintwork, but with a black leather interior.
The Millennium Edition Puma featured eye catching Zinc Yellow paintwork, and a dark blue leather interior with Recaro seats. A numbered badge and keyring were available upon purchase from Ford, but the cars were not automatically numbered.
[edit] Black
Quantity Produced: 1600
Years available: 2000(X) to 2001(51)
The Puma Black featured a black leather interior, Panther Black paintwork and Ford's 'F1' style alloys. The original quantity of the Puma Black was meant to be only 1000, but as the edition proved to be popular, an additional 600 were produced.
[edit] Thunder
Quantity Produced: 1000 each in Moondust Silver and Magnum Grey
Years available: 2000(X) to 2002(52)
These were among the final 2000 pumas produced. Although Moondust Silver was available throughout the whole of the puma's production run, Magnum Grey was only available on the Thunder Edition. All of the Thunder editions featured a grey leather interior, 6 disc CD changer and multispoke alloys similar to those featured on the Fiesta Zetec-S.
[edit] Ford Racing Puma (ST160) This section does not cite any references or sources.
Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (November 2010) Ford Racing Puma Quantity Produced: 500 (all numbered on inlet manifold) Years available: 1999(V) to 2000(X)
The Ford Racing Puma was the name eventually given to Ford's concept Puma, the ST160, first unvieled to the public at the 1999 Geneva Motorshow[4]. At the time Ford where keen to stress that this was no mere styling job like the regular 'Editions', the idea was to transfer the know how and technology learning direct from Ford Puma race and rally programmes to a road car. Ford Puma ST160 Concept brings together the key elements of the rally bred technology into a car suitable for road use. It was created by the Ford Rally specialist team at Boreham, lead by Peter Beattie. The strictly limited production run was initially pencilled to run for 1000 units, 500 destined for the German market, 500 for the UK. All conversions were carried out by Tickford, Daventry UK [5]. In the end only the UK market got 500 Ford Racing Puma's and just like in the case of the Bugatti Veyron and BMW M3 CSL, every car sold lost the parent company money but acted as a 'halo' car. Due to the limited production exclusivity is guarenteed. From the original 500, its claimed that roughly half are still around (which haven't been written off, crashed, stolen, stripped or heavily modified).
The vehicle featured a racing modified version of the 1.7 Zetec-SE engine which produced 155 bhp (116 kW; 157 PS) at 7000 rpm and 162 ft·lbf (220 N·m) of torque at 4500 rpm. The team starting with the original free revving 125bhp, 1.7 litre Zetec SE engine from the regular 1.7 Puma and the development team then used proven tuning practices to raise the power output. From a performance perspective, it accelerates to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.8 seconds, however this car is all about the handling and braking performance. The FRP's party trick is it's staggering cornering ability, driven well on a tight, twisty road there isn't much outside of a Lotus Elise that can live with one of these cars. It's a real track day car, but with all the extras like airbags, aircon and audio system. It is claimed that the late Colin McRae had a Racing Puma in his collection and he was quoted as stating it was the 'best fun car' he owned from his large collection of cars. Additionally EVO Magazine in the UK placed it as one the top ten best handling cars, when reviewed it was a 4 out of 5 star car [6].
Ultimately, the Racing Puma was only sold in the right-hand drive format to the UK market. Less than half were actually sold directly to customers due to the vehicle's high price/bhp often cited as a reason for this. To put this in perspective Ford dealers in the North of England were asking up to £23,000 for the Racing Puma when rival performance cars like the Subaru Impreza (with an additional 50+ BHP/Turbo, 4 Wheel Drive and rallying pedigree) were being offered for a maximum of £21,000 with the optional Pro Drive pack. The lower than anticipated demand saw Ford offering Racing Pumas to senior managers through their MRC scheme, which enabled cars to continue being registered and converted. The lack of demand when brand new has actually paid off in the longer-term. Many cars ended up for sale at reduced prices purely because they weren’t selling as well as Ford had hoped. Along with the keener pricing, exclusivity and race bred credibility, suddenly the demand turned around and the FRP for the next few years finally got the status and success it so quite rightly deserved all along. [7].
This example (Right) is No.351 on the pitlane at Goodwood. The famous "T1CKF" license plate was fitted by the second owner. The car started off on an X plate and was a Ford management car.
[edit] Uprated race braking system
For the Racing Puma, Ford partnered with Alcon Design to produce a 4-Piston Motorsport braking system. The Alcon Racing Front Brake calipers boast 295 mm (11.6 in) x 28mm discs (270mm discs on the rear). These racing brakes are one of the defining attributes of the Racing Puma and they contribute significantly to enabling the standard 1,174 kg (2,588 lb) car to pull a substantial 1.1g+ of braking force in the dry (this is the same braking gforces performance as a Lamborghini Gallardo!) [8]. This compares well to the normal Puma's ability to achieve 0.7g on regular, smaller, 258 mm (10.2 in) x 22 mm (0.9 in) brake discs and calipers. The braking performance provides the car an uncanny ability to out brake and out handle exotic cars costing several times more when new. Brake feel is further enhanced by use of steel braided brake hoses as standard reducing any mushy feel associated with regular brake linings made of rubber flexing under pressure on a non racing system.
From a design perspective the Original Alcon front calipers have curved veins so they are different for the left and a right hand applications. Unfortunately the standard Alcon supplied discs where manufactured as one piece items to keep costs down so are not as light as they should be. There are options from the aftermarket however and some FRP owners who track their car regularly have now upgraded to discs with separate centre bells produced in lightweight aluminium as a 2-piece racing set up. This alone saves an incredible 1kg (each disc) of unsprung weight over a standard Alcon discs. This substantial improvement in unsprung weight improving both acceleration and braking and also makes sourcing replacement discs cheaper and easier.
The brake calipers themselves, being derived from a racing set-up, do not come fitted with any protective rubber boots which prevent brake dust and debris from coming into contact with the brake pistons. This means its important for Racing Puma owners to have the brakes serviced regularly (fully dismantled and properly cleaned) to ensure they are in tip top condition. Furthermore the inner portions of the caliper where not fully painted and without careful maintenance they can corrode (they are made of aluminium). Some owners have during maintenance painted these surfaces to help protect them from corrosion. Both the 4 pistons per caliper and the 2 seals per piston are all available as spare parts. Aftermarket caliper piston alternatives are also available which boast fully stainless steel construction (for improved weatherproofing). Some pistons have also been made 1 mm (0.04 in) shorter to allow fitment of standard fit Ferrari or Porsche brake pads (they won't normally fit the Racing Puma as the pad width is too thick to fit without the 1 mm (0.04 in) shortened pistons).
[edit] Uprated bodywork and handling
The bodywork was beefed up with wider lightweight aluminium front and steel rear overhangs, these covered a substantially widened track at both the front and rear requiring longer drive shafts unique to the Racing Puma. A front aerodynamic air splitter and modified wider front bumper with sports grill. There are Speedline alloy wheels, 17" x 7.5 (with an ET28 Offset), shon with 215/40 tyres (original fitment tyres where Michelin SXGT 215/40 R17). The wider stance over the wheels give a 'pumped up' appearance and take the vehicle from 1674mm to 1770mm. The rally version of Ford Puma is just 35mm wider than a Racing puma.
The Racing Puma's suspension was developed and honed by Ford's specialist division at Boreham, Essex and the cars monocoque shell was originally designed to be Ford's WRC entrant. Stig Blomqvist spent months fine tuning a car's handling to ensure its chassis dynamics where perfected. The wider track, uprated springs, dampers and special geometry settings refined the cars cornering poise to another level beyond the standard cars already excellent handling. The upshot of the improved chassis finess was a bias towards tracks and hence the car has a very firm ride on public roads which some areas of the media critisized as being a bit 'too firm'. Wider Arches covering wider track - Front & Rear
Use of CNC Machined Axle Spacers (20.5mm width) at the rear, Billet Alloy Rear Axle Spacers. One side is engraved with the Ford 909 part number (All Ford Motorsport part numbers start with 909), the opposite end is engraved with the Ford logo. These spacers sit between the rear hub & drum/disc extending the length of the axle, helping to improve the handling. They also fit Ford KA, Ford Fiesta Mk4/5, Ford Puma and Ford Focus Mk1.
Use of lengthened front wishbones and driveshafts.
Wider, High Lateral Grip Sports Tyres (Road Legal, not slicks) - 215/40 R17's,
Uprated ST160 Springs & Racing Dampers (From Eibach, Pro-Damper, produced by Sachs, Germany).
Special Geometry Settings only for Racing Puma. FRP's had their full geometry set at Tickford prior to delivery. [9] All Racing Puma's left the factory painted metallic Imperial Blue to signify their special racing edition status. This is a colour that was only used by Ford on a select range of cars such as the Ford Escort Cosworth and Mk.1 Ford Focus RS edition model's. The colour was not available on the regular Puma's in the UK market.
[edit] Uprated gearbox and optional limited slip differential
The standard IB5 gearbox was strengthened on the Racing Puma compared to the regular Puma. It contains modified shafts which have been shot penned to withstand the extra load placed upon it. This allowed a revised Power-train Control Module software to be used allowing more power and torque to be utilised in earlier gears.
Additionally Ford Racing offered an optional Limited Slip Differential to enhance handling even further, only 80 customer cars actually came equipped with an LSD from factory but since then subsequent owners have been known to retrofit an LSD since a Racing Puma can be retro fitted with one which helps its handling, especially so out on track days.
[edit] Alcantara Racing inspired interior
Sparco where comissioned to provide high grip bucket seats for improved driver control in high g cornering situations, blue Alcantara trim providing improved holding over other material types. The dials on the dashboard where coloured white and the interior boasted a individually numbered metal topped gear knob. The steering wheel was also covered in Alcantara for improved grip. Door cards, rear seats and rear interior trim where all covered in Alcantara and front seats where embroided with a Ford Racing emblem. Rear side windows where also fitted with Ford Racing badges.
[edit] FRP Uprated engine
The original Ford Design remit was to achieve 180bhp using a 1.7 Zetec SE equipped with a tubocharger. This was not achieved however due to spiraling project costs and eventully the Racing Puma engineers where forced to keep their changes within a normally aspirated powerplant. Considering they utilised a completely standard engine bottom end and standard head (with these parts all came from the regular 1.7 Zetec SE engine [including the valves, pistons and even the normal 1.7 head gasket], they achived an impressive hike in power. A specially tuned complete exhaust system (including revised free flowing catalysts), individually numbered induction intake system and unique camshafts with more aggressive cam timing and revised engine management software on the 'TAPE' variant of the Puma ignition ecu all helped to up power by 30 hp over the standard 1.7 Zetec SE engine.
The characteristics of the engine mapping, exhaust and exhaust valve timing give the Racing Puma its signature "pops and bangs" on overrun which some people say sounds very much like a rally car soundtrack, very satisfying and raspy. The tuning modifications where well balanced and improved breathing and exhaust flow, allow higher revving nature while retaining engine tractability and all-important torque.
Some FRP enthusiasts have sort more power, claiming the standard chassis could handle substantially more. Through the use of fully bench flowed and ported heads, re-profiled larger valves and re-mapping of the original ECU its possible to top 200bhp from the 1.7 engine. To ensure reliability in this state of tune some have fitted forged pistons and shot peened connecting rods along with a steel motorsport derived head gasket.

Ford also produced a Ford Puma Kit Car which was designed to be competed in rallying. The Puma's technical details included a Zetec SE all alloy engine with 4 cylinders and 16 valves at 1596 cc, power over 200 bhp (150 kW) at 9000 rpm, front wheel drive via a Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox, limited slip differential, dynamic front suspension using MacPherson struts with adjustable spring platforms, Ford Racing rear trailing arm beam with adjustable dynamic suspension, Alcon front brakes with 355 mm (14.0 in) diameter ventilated discs using four-piston calipers, Alcon 260 mm (10 in) diameter solid disc rear brakes with two piston calipers, a welded steel safety roll cage, and front and rear wheel arches and bumpers in composite. The fuel tank was a 55 litre capacity FIA ‘bag’ tank located beneath rear floor. Wheels were Tarmac 7” x 17” aluminium wheels or 6” x 15” aluminium wheels for gravel.[10]
In 2008, Luke Pinder raced the R2 class of the British Rally Championship in a Super 1400 Ford Puma.[11]
[edit] Group B variant This section requires expansion with:
Group B Puma variant. [edit] Style and advertising Puma interior at night Stylistically, the Puma followed Ford's New Edge design strategy, as first seen in the 1996 Ford Ka. While not as controversial as the Ka when it first appeared, the Puma did achieve critical acclaim for its well-proportioned and cat-like design cues.
The Puma was memorable for its pan-European launch campaign that featured Steve McQueen. The original UK television advertisement used clips from the movie Bullitt and cut McQueen into the modern setting of a Puma in San Francisco. In late 2004, Ford once again used the McQueen footage for the first 2005 Ford Mustang commercial in the U.S. Both commercials were directed by UK Director Paul Street, and won many advertising industry awards, featuring in all time top 10 ad charts.
[edit] Discontinuation
The Puma was only sold in Europe. Production ceased in 2001 although sale of stock vehicles continued into 2002. Ford did not replace it with another small coupé, and instead introduced the Ford StreetKa, a two-seater convertible based on the Fiesta just as the Puma was. The StreetKa also borrowed the Puma's transmission and suspension.
[edit] Next generation
A new Ford Puma was rumored to be launching in 2009, a year after the new Fiesta based on the Reflex concept car shown in the Detroit Motor Show in 2006.[12] More recent rumours of a new Ford Puma put the release date further into the future, but no specifics on the specifications or the estimated year have been quoted to date.[13]
