2009 FORD MONDEO TITANIUM TDCI 125 BLACK
.
| Hello and welcome to my auction for "Mandy Mondeo" (my four year old, bless his heart). | It is a 2009 59 plate Mondeo Titanium TDCi | I am going to...>
be sad to see her go, she has been a faithful servant to me and my family, however needs must, and here she is. | The list could be quite long, so please read throughout before bidding!!!!!!!!! | Good Points | Tax - end of 09/12, see last pic. Comes with car, so its all ready to go. | Mot - None. Usually this is bad news, but as Mandy is less than three her first MOT is due 4/11/12. All you need to do is add insurance (cost me a tad over £300 all in this year, which is pretty good for a car this size, as I am not an insurance agent, I don`t know how much it is for you, could be less (hmph!) could be more). | Sony Dab Radio. Some fantastic music on digital, some absolute rubbish. All sound much better in Digital. Has an AM/FM function too if your favourite station is not on digital. Another function with this radio, which is guaranteed to save you points and money, it also becomes a phone via bluetooth! The radio/cd cuts off when someone calls you and you yell at the radio when you feel like talking. Some kids once thought the car talked when I pulled up at the shop and continued my conversation. Anyway far as I know its all perfectly legal, handsfree and although you look like a muppet talking to yourself, you will have the last laugh when you don`t have to keep forking out £60 or whatever it is for phone use!!!! | 18 inch alloy wheels. Why so big, no idea. They were on the car when I bought them, I will sell them with the car. The spare is one of those useless space saver donut things, but on the plus side its brand new never been used!!!!! | 6 cd multichanger. Don`t be fooled by the apparent single cd player, its a 6 cd multichanger. The cds hide somewhere behind the radio. I will happily demonstrate it too you on test drives/pick up of bought car. | Air bags. They are everywhere, steering wheel, passenger side, side of the car, I don`t know exactly how many there are, have never felt the need to smash the car to find them. Nice to know they are there tho. | Duel zone climate control. Why on earth anybody needs this function, I do not know. Basically its so your passenger can be colder/warmer than you. Its there, it works, never really needed it. | Air con. Has been recharged, not been used over winter, tested before I put on here, its bloody freezing with it on, so presumably thats good!!!! Will be of far more use when the summer comes (we all live in hope!!) | Electric windows - front and rear. For those with kids (like me) the back ones can be switched off at the drivers side. Believe me, that is probably the most useful button in the car. Which reminds me, there are child safety locks on the rear doors. If you don`t have children, am happy to unlock them. As it is, they are staying on so that the little darlings dont decide to do a suicide dive at 50mph!!!! They operate with the driving key. | Cruise control. If you really can`t be bothered to use the gas pedal, the cruise control works from the steering wheel controls. Good for avoiding speeding tickets too I guess, if you set it below 70!!!! | Rear Tinted Windows. My boys love these, the idiot behind can`t see you giving him the finger, avoids road rage. Kids think they are special and are being transported like royalty. So do the adults. I bought the car like this, so I have no idea why the tints are there, they just are. | 3 adult seat belts in the rear of the car, to match the 2 adult ones in the front. If you have only two passengers, the middle of the back seat doubles up as an armrest. Great for trapping each others hands in a fight, or for leaning on. Or for ignoring! | Massive boot. Handy for putting the kids in when they don`t behave. Or the shopping. | Folding Rear View mirrors. When you lock the car, the mirrors fold in. Automatically. Works on both keys. | Rain sensitive wipers. For when you can`t be bothered to use the wipers manually. Also thinks shade is rain, but hey ho. | Automatic lights. For people who cannot be bothered to turn them on and off manually. | Cup holders by the handbrake (x2) can`t think of anything to say about these other that it holds cups, or more likely, bottles of pop. | Front fog lights. And rear ones too. For foggy days, or as most people seem to use them for, extra headlights!!!! | Tow bar. For pulling trailers. Not recommended for dog walking. Single electrics so I can tow my trailer. If you want to pull a caravan, this car probably would. Would probably pull a train! More to the point, I seem to recall somewhere, that it is around 1.2 tons it can tow? Please check before attempting too, and you pull a train at your own risk! | The front console has two compartments, one for minor things, I keep the locking wheel nut remover there. The bottom part can hold some cds. | Glove box. Presumeably for gloves. Or for storing paperwork. | Bad Bits | Yes, its a car. There are some. | Stone chips. Yes, they are they, no I cannot be bothered to sort them, I am not selling a new car, live with it. They aren`t bad, but for the sake of honesty, I might as well say they are there. I drive it everyday, and that means a chance for more to appear. or not. Any squashed bugs etc that were missed when I cleaned it last come for free. Although if I do get time I will try and remove them for new owner. I will say there are NO nasty dings, scratches trolley dents etc, they would be sorted if they appeared. | Alloys. Have seen better days. 3 need a refurb, so may as well say all 4 do. Or do what I do, get them dirty and you won`t notice!!!!! Again, I repeat, this car is not new, am not selling it as new, so in 52,000 miles, they are bound to have touched a kerb or two. Again, they are not buckled or useless, but for the sake of honesty, I will mention it now. | Interior. I have kids, they seem to love making me clean the car, so are not fussy about wiping their feet on the seats or whatever. The car is booked in for a valet on monday, so it will be clean. Maybe not showroom, but then you won`t be paying showroom money. The reserve I have set is nowhere near showroom money. Also there is the dreaded cigarette burn. I can`t remember if I bought the car with it or not, or whether I have a careless friend or not, since I noticed it, I banned smoking in the car, but horse and barn door and all that. You can ignore it, fix it (no idea how much that costs, its hidden if someone sits on it, and I don`t notice it when I am driving!) or put a cover over the seats (again horse and barn door spring to mind, but I am a busy man in my defence). | Thats it. No nasty knocking, rattling or noises (unless the kids are in the car, but you can`t blame the car for that!). The engine and gearbox are superb, and everything works like it should. Sure a few cosmetic things to take into account, but its cheap for the year. I wish I knew Edd China from wheeler dealers, who seems to do all that for free, but I don`t. My suggestion is bid accordingly, you are buying a used car, knock some off for these fixes (should you want to do it, I didn`t!) and try your luck. You might be surprised. | Test Driving. I wouldn`t buy a car without doing it. Yes this is ebay, and I am being honest, but best to find out yourself. Email me for a convienient time to test drive, bring your license and proof of insurance entitling you to drive other cars with the owners permission and have a go. If you don`t have a license, or forget your insurance, I will happily demonstrate the car to you on the duel carriageway and country roads. Also you are more than welcome to bring a mechanic friend, the aa, the rac whatever. I have nothing to hide, but I am no mechanic. If they find a problem, I will rectify it, but as a professional driver I know a little bit, and I can`t fault my car. I run my kids about in it, I demand nothing but the best mechanical wise. | Fuel economy. Its DIESEL. (Just in case you didn`t know!) I can tell you I have managed 70mpg. Once. On a trip from Newark to Louth, I averaged 70mpg. On the return journey, a more normal 45mpg. On a 3000 mile average, I did 42.5mpg, including journeys and the dreaded short hops etc. I would say the lead footed driver will struggle to return less than 40mpg on average, the usual driver taking a little bit of care, mid 40`s is acheivable, and for the James May type of person, you could regularly return 50mpg+. Economy figures depend on the driver. I am not plucking the figures from thin air, I used the cars computer to give this information. Take it how you like. | Bidding. I know thats the idea here, you bid, I hope you meet my reserve and everybody is happy. But, and I apologise to the 99 per cent of genuine ebayers here, this paragraph must be put in. You bid, you don`t meet my reserve, you do not win the car. Sorry. I am happy to keep the car if I have to. If you bid, meet the reserve, then the hammer price is the price you pay. Not more, certainly not less. Don`t come kicking the tyres with your sob stories, I am not interested. View the car with pleasure, make of it what you will, bid accordingly. Hammer price WILL be paid, even if you don`t want it. If you mess me about, I will relist. I will name and shame you. I will chase you for fees, and I will do my damndest to get you kicked off ebay. Enough said. New bidders, we were all new once, and the rules apply to you as much as the people with feedback. I am genuine, honest and I expect you to be. No bidding if you dont want it or cant afford it. Let those that do want it and can afford it bid for it. Please! I am open to offers before bidding starts. I will certainly not entertain any below the start price. My answer will be two words, one unprintable the other off. The car will not come off auction unless you bring your cash. When you do that, the car is then sold. When bidding starts, don`t bother, the auction will end and the highest bidder will win. | My reserve is a very reasonable one, in my opinion. No I am not going to tell you what it is. Its not new car money, Its not even car this age money, as I am aware of those bits which do spoil it a little. Not major things, but they are there. Hence a reasonable reserve. There is money in it for the dealers amongst you, as I know cars of this age sell for just a tad under 10 grand. I know of a ford dealer that has one with more miles than mine for £10,995! I appreciate my car isn`t showroom, but its nowhere near scrap either. Be sensible with offers, and I will be friendly, if you are close to what I want, I will respond accordingly. If you are nowhere near, don`t expect a reply. Simples. | Payment. Simple yes please. I personally prefer cold hard cash. Not funny money, not euros. I will check! Neither do I want your wife, or your kids, or your dog or anything else! I realise its a wedge of cash and you don`t have it lying around. You may need to visit a bank etc. I am happy to wait a few days, sort out the money and paperwork and everybody is happy. Not too long tho, I aint gonna wait for weeks!! If you prefer to pay by paypal, then you pay my fees too. I lose enough selling this and ebays cut, without paypal taking a further cut. I appreciate its safer, and recommended etc, but You WILL PAY MY FEES for that option. If you don`t, I will reverse, relist as above. Cheques, not acceptable. Sorry, not on this one. I am happy to do a bank transfer, when the bank confirms the funds are cleared for use, the car is yours. | One last thing, I will require the V5 to be filled in, in front of me. I don`t care if mickey mouse is the new owner, long as it leaves my name and address I will send the v5 same day as its filled out. No ifs, buts or whatevers. | Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am not tied to my laptop, but will try and check in every day. The more sensible ones will be reposted with the answer, and if I am in a bad mood so will the stupid ones. Be aware of that before you send any silly emails. | Thank you for your patience in reading this far. Good luck if you decide to bid, and will see you on the other side of the auction if you win :) | X

February 2008 NOT long ago, claiming a Mondeo could rival a compact executive for style was comparable to turning up at a wedding in jeans rather than a suit. But Ford’s efforts have unquestionably driven the model upmarket. It’s a big car, and takes up more road space than any rival here, yet the tight lines give it a solid feel. The heavy thud of the doors confirms that the Mondeo’s build quality is impressively close to the compact executives in this test.In fact, our top-spec Titanium X model is arguably the glitziest machine here. The standard chrome trim contrasts with the black paint and optional 18-inch wheels, darkened rear glass and xenon lights to give the Ford an expensive look. It certainly helps set it apart from entry-level cars. But what really separates the Mondeo from the other vehicles in this test is its sheer size. It’s longer, taller and wider, and provides unrivalled interior space in this company. The boot is bigger and has the flexibility of a hatchback opening, the rear seats are more accommodating and no rival can match its versatility. Who needs an estate when you’ve got a maximum capacity of 1,448 litres? Not many company users, that’s for sure. The cabin is comfortable and spacious, too, although the £250 eight-way electric seats in our car sit higher than the standard items, which compromises the driving position.Otherwise we have no complaints, and our Mondeo offered far more hi-tech gadgets than its executive opponents. Optional sat-nav, adaptive cruise control, voice-controlled Bluetooth, keyless go and rear sunblinds all feature. But it’s the fact that Ford got the basics right that make the Mondeo such a great car. And the driving experience is a key part of this. Our test model’s optional sports suspension and 18-inch wheels give the ride a firmer edge, and the Ford’s chassis is excellent. The superb damping is still there, but the tighter suspension and bigger rims mean imperfections can be felt more. Nevertheless, flawless body control and fantastic grip levels remain, as does the light yet wonderfully fluid steering. So the Ford is involving and composed, exhibiting a similar range of talents to the new A4. Once again, the Mondeo’s ability to blend comfort with fun means it isn’t out of its depth dynamically. The 2.0-litre TDCi engine is one of the best in the family hatch class, but here it’s outmuscled. If you opt for the auto box we tested you have to make do with 128bhp – some way short of the 170bhp-plus offered by the BMW and Mercedes. Still, the 340Nm torque output is competitive – it’s 20Nm up on the 141bhp Audi. Yet the Ford can’t match the mid-range punch of the C-Class and 320d and isn’t as smooth under acceleration, either. The six-speed auto doesn’t help matters. In kickdown it highlights engine noise and doesn’t really suit the diesel in day-to-day driving. It also increases fuel consumption and raises emissions, making the Ford the least efficient of this quartet. In addition, the blue oval model recorded the highest noise meter reading at 70mph – strange because to the human ear it feels and sounds very refined on the motorway. At £22,945, the Mondeo is the cheapest car here, but that seems a lot of money for a Ford – especially when the Audi is only £1,000 more. So does the Mondeo make as much sense at this end of the market as it does in the family class? X Chart position:4th WHY? The latest Mondeo has the refinement and quality to aspire to a place in the executive market. AT A GLANCE: The Mondeo isn’t far behind for driver appeal and quality. However, it’s as costly as rivals to run, and the engine isn’t a great performer. SCORES Styling/image: Interior/quality: Practicality: Driving experience: Ownership costs: Green rating: ECONOMY Auto gearboxes normally increase fuel consumption, but the Mondeo gave 37.5mpg. It was the closest to its official figure, and can cover 577 miles between fill-ups. RESIDUALS The Mondeo has a predicted value of 34.8 per cent – so it trails its premium rivals by a long way. This in turn hikes the Ford’s running costs to a hefty 63 pence a mile. SERVICING Ford’s garage network is huge, but it finished a lowly 25th in Driver Power 2007. Still, the check-ups are cheap, with the first three services coming to £512. TAX With its auto box, the Ford emits 189g/km. This puts it in the 28 per cent bracket, which means tax of £2,570 a year on the top band. And that’s before adding options. Verdict Cabin is well laid out, and there’s a decent amount of stowage; load space is wider and longer than any of its saloon opponents. You don’t get the same sense of luxury as the A4 or the sporty feel of the 3-Series. Auto Express Car Reviews By Dirk BrankeMay 2008 Rating: Ford is at the head of the pack when it comes to diesels. Its excellent selection of TDCi engines already covers all the bases, as it includes 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0-litre units – and now the range has been boosted by a revised version of the powerful 2.2-litre.The new powerplant goes on sale this month and appears in the S-MAX and Galaxy people carriers, as well as the acclaimed Mondeo. The engine will also interest hot hatch fans, too, as it could even find its way under the bonnet of the recently facelifted Focus, as Ford looks to compete with SEAT’s oil-burning Leon FR.The big question is, does the latest diesel maintain the reputation of the firm’s previous TDCi powerplants? These engines can rightly claim to have transformed Ford’s reputation – before the original 1.8-litre version was introduced in the first-generation Focus, the blue oval sat very firmly at the bottom of the oil-burning pile. So the newcomer has a lot to live up to.It certainly gets off to a good start, producing 173bhp and a superb 400Nm of torque. Those figures are up 20bhp and 40Nm respectively on the outgoing 2.2-litre, and provide the Mondeo with excellent straight-line performance. The engine debuts in a fresh flagship for the range, badged the Titanium X Sport (see Page 17), but Zetec and Titanium X models will also be made available. In five-door guise, it completes the sprint from 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds on the way to a 139mph top speed.In-gear performance is even more impressive thanks to the engine’s overboost facility, which increases the maximum torque output to 420Nm for short periods under full throttle. The Mondeo is already renowned as the best-driving car in its class, and the new diesel shows its worth by providing impressive pace to go along with its agile handling.Importantly, the 2.2-litre is smooth and refined, and economy hasn’t suffered, either. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, and is capable of returning 45.6mpg.What’s more, it emits only 165g/km of CO2. That places the flagship diesel in road tax band D, which will make it a popular choice with business users and private buyers alike. When it comes to equipment, the Titanium X has got just about everything you’ll need. A six-disc in-dash CD autochanger, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, automatic headlamps and dual-zone climate control all feature on the car’s generous standard equipment list.Ford’s gutsy five-cylinder petrol engine is also availble in the Mondeo, but the superior economy and strong performance of the 2.2 TDCi make the diesel a more sensible alternative for enthusiastic drivers.Rival: Vauxhall InsigniaWhen it hits the UK later this year, the Insignia promises better handling than any big Vauxhall before it – and with its sleek looks it could leave the Mondeo in the shade. However, the flagship 2.0-litre diesel at launch will only be able to muster 158bhp. Strong, smooth and refined, it delivers impressive performance, decent fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions. If you must have the go-faster 2.2 option, it won’t disappoint you, but the smaller 2.0-litre variant is already an outstanding choice in the Mondeo. We’d recommend you try that before splashing out extra for the new flagship diesel. Sure, a few people may grumble about drive being sent to the front wheels, or the fact that the badge on the front is a blue oval and not a blue and white propeller. But really, the latest Mondeo is quiet, comfortable and a damn good drive. About the only criticism we could level at the Mondeo is that it lacks a bit of grunt, especially as it’s a hefty beast. Sure, there’s a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine but it’s not what you’d call economical. And the engines that you’d call economical just aren’t fast enough. The solution comes in the shape of the 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel co-developed with PSA that also finds work in various big Peugeots and Citroens. So this diesel solves all the Ford Mondeo’s problems? Pretty much. The increase to 2197cc brings an extra 35bhp and 44lb ft, with only a 25kg penalty. But it does weigh 1615kg or nearly 100kg more than the equivalent Volkswagen Passat Estate. On the road though you wouldn’t notice and there’s typical decent diesel shove from very low revs. If you want to drive it like a petrol it’ll rev past 4000rpm before any engine noise becomes too intrusive. Be sensible, stick below 3000rpm, use that 295lb ft slug of torque and you can make brisk, easy progress. 12Next>> Rate this article... 1 2 3 4 5 Average rating: 3.5 (126 votes) Discuss this Add your comment Sign in You must be signed in to submit a comment. Martin Smith's new design direction for Ford is, frankly, horrible, and has just ruined the criminally underated Chris Bird Focus, which I hope will be appreciated in years to come as a fine example of early 21st century industrial design - clean, unfussy, marvellously fit for purpose. 28 May 2008 18:16 farmersboy says RE: Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X Estate Well I hope it handles better than the model before it, which is wallowy, understeers like a pig and has horribly remote steering. This new model also has one of the most revolting dashboards I've ever seen, the back end is a mess, and it is widely overpriced - Ford should be ashamed of itself. 28 May 2008 08:03 a t o m i c says RE: Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X Estate Frankly, it looks awful. Who would buy this when they could have a Subaru Legacy Sports Tourer Diesel for less? Private buyers will pick up a Subaru, Skoda or a Volvo and company buyers will take an Audi or Beemer. Ford, you have to make a £24K car DESIRABLE LOOKING. 28 May 2008 01:31 Agoogy says RE: Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X Estate Anyone who tries to sell a 5 series' sized car in the 3 series sized market, cannot win... its unnecessarily MASSIVE... I mean HUGE, who asked for D segment cars to be this big and heavy.. reeeeeediculous. Its akin to the X6 in this area... it handles, its fun...drives well... but why is it so big...??!! 27 May 2008 22:31 lokinen says RE: Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCI Titanium X Estate Why would anyone wonder why the 3 series sells better in this country than the mondeo when these things are so much money.£24k before extras!!!! get out of here!! 27 May 2008 18:01 Show all comments Become a CAR contributor Upload stories, photos or videos direct to the site, or email newsdesk@carmagazine.co.uk.
